群展:破译隐晦 已于 9月1日 下午 4 点顺利在画廊开幕,开幕当天我们邀请了DJ进行现场演出,参展的 4 位艺术家通过完美配合展现了涂鸦的全过程,并邀请在场的观众加入。隐秘在都市的街头巷尾,这些涂鸦艺术家昼伏夜出,最终在展览现场现身。布置在展厅各处的体感游戏为大家提供了更沉浸式的体验,观众们都度过了一个难忘的周末傍晚。本次展览时间较短,只持续至本周日,希望大家安排好观展时间。

参展艺术家


Filippo Cardella

一个在北京工作生活的艺术家和设计师,生于1984年。他的艺术作品主要关注的是我们都市景观环境内的复杂社会动态。Filippo试图描绘城市的特有人群:他记录,拆分并重新组织从他们身上提取出的符号,行为以及语言,用来创造一个研究我们当今生态的全新工具。中国的超级大都市和其永不衰退的活力给Filippo提供了无尽的创作灵感。他的艺术作品和壁画充满了鲜艳的颜色,抽象的图形和比喻性内容,这些图像融汇在一起就像是荧幕上闪过的画面。设计和艺术,流行和学院文化,现在和过去,统统被一副来自我们社会的超现实拼贴画所囊括在内。


ZEIT (b.1992)

墨尔本皇家理工大学艺术专业硕士。ZEIT 在街头的创作包括中文壁画艺术与装置艺术。通过传统书法结构与西方书法字体的经验,总结出一套属于自己的中文创作系统,以喷漆的形式留在大街小巷,通过重复与直接的书写,夸张,放大文字笔触,将文字以符号性融入生活。在街头创作的同时,收集与利用街头经验,通过现成品再空间中的重新组合,展示一座城市对个人的碎片化记忆。


EXAS (b.1989)

深受当代城市艺术的影响,他的创作手法简洁,善于运用各种媒介自身的特殊语言来表达特定的情绪。在他的作品中可以看到很多重复出现的文字,图案,物体以及内容,意在通过重复某些特定的视觉元素来加深参观者的感官体验。他的作品通常与他成长的年代中所经历的城市文化紧密相连。通过重现当时的音乐,电影,动画,玩具,生活物品等具有80,90年代特征的标志性元素,他希望引起观者对过去和现在的共鸣,进而尝试引发我们对于未来都市化发展和全球化进程的思考。


奶粉 zhou

1980年出生于广东东莞。本科毕业于英文专业,闲时喜爱画画,曾做过翻译、调酒师,并在没顶画廊和《艺术世界》杂志工作过。2014年开始作为职业艺术家进行创作。奶粉zhou 的作品色彩多变、对比强烈,他喜欢将日常爱好:听的音乐,看的电影、球赛,打的街机游戏等全部变成创作元素,并置重叠呈现在画布上。直觉性的绘画语言导向其对生活的考察与剖析,构成具有巨大张力的想象空间。

Tabula Rasa Gallery is pleased to present group exhibition: Aberrant Decoding on September 1, 2018. Participated artists are EXAS, Filippo Cardella, Nathan Zhou, and ZEIT. The exhibition will continue until September 9, 2018.


The title of the exhibition Aberrant Decoding is taken from a semiotic category that describes the different levels of misinterpretation of a message by the receiver. A concealed deciphering may be a completely failed communication, but may also evoke new terms and new visual features. The artists attempt to grasp the futuristic visual language through graffiti, which was born between subcultures and underground movements, it leads to the extension of people's awareness of ideology and culture.


When the public encounters graffiti, graffiti does not directly talk to the public. It turns into a code that needs to be deciphered, and becomes an opportunity to free artists and audiences from the structural limits of the language. Tools Filippo creates for studying today's habitats, Nathan Zhou's intuitive painting language, ZEIT's unique Chinese creation system, and the repeatability of certain specific visual elements in EXAS's works all show their attitude towards urban art. Based on their consensus on art in the city, the exhibition is now a brand-new sequence, and hopefully it will be a recreation.


As an art movement, graffiti has kept developing over the past 50 years. During this period, it has formed a more complete intertextuality with other subcultures, and mystery has always been the core of graffiti. Based on the creative thinking formed by the viewer after seeing the whole production process, the information behind the work is insightful. This exhibition restores this process, the exhibition hall is arranged as a palace with dense symbols, the central wall was knocked down, and recombined as an incarnation of the secret passage. 


On the opening day, these mysterious artists will continue their creation of graffiti in the venue, audiences are welcomed to guess artists' other identities in the urban graffiti. We are not only laying out various motion sensing games all around the hall, but also inviting DJs to do live performances, we wish all audiences to enjoy the art, music and game on a perfect weekend evening.


Participating Artists


Filippo Cardella (b. 1984) 

Filippo Cardella is an Italian artist and designer based in Beijing. His artworks are mainly concerned about the complex social behaviors and power dynamics within the rigid grid of the urban landscape. Filippo portrays the endemic population of the city: He documents, disrupts and alters their symbols, their behavior and their languages in order to create new tools to analyze our contemporary habitat. The mega-cities of China and their unabated life are an endless source of inspiration. His canvases and murals are filled with saturated colors, abstract shapes and figurative subjects that merge together like images flashing on a screen. Design and art, popular and academic culture, present and past are mixed in a surreal collage of our society.


ZEIT (b.1992)

graduated with a master degree of Art at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, ZEIT's street creations include Chinese mural art and installation art. Through the experience of learning traditional calligraphy structures and western calligraphy fonts, he concluded a set of his own Chinese creation system, which was left in the form of spray paints in the streets and lanes. These exaggeration and enlargement of text strokes are repeated and directly written. He integrated symbolic texts into daily life,and through the recombination of ready-made objects in space, showing individual’s fragmented memories of a city.


EXAS (b.1989)

deeply influenced by contemporary urban art, his creative techniques are simple but precise, and he is good at using the unique languages from various media to express his emotions. In his work, people are able to see many repetitive content, which are intended to deepen the visitors' sensory experience by repeating certain specific visual elements. His works are often closely related to the urban culture he experienced during his grown-up years. By recreating those iconic elements of music, movies, animations, toys and daily supplies from 1980s and 1990s, he hopes to arouse viewers' resonance of the past and present, then proceeds to evoke our thoughts of future urbanization and globalization.


Nathan Zhou (b.1980)

Dongguan, Guangdong, China. He majored in English and loves to paint in his spare time. He worked as a translator, cocktail mixer, staffed at Made In Gallery as well as the magazine Art World. Nathan Zhou's full-time professional art career began in 2014. Known for his changeful colors and strong contrast, he likes to layer imageries from his everyday hobbies on the canvas. These include music, films, soccer, and arcade games. His instinctive methodology points to his life experiences, creating a forceful space for the imagination.

Tabula Rasa 画廊致力于推广中国本土和国际的当代艺术家,2015 年5月成立于北京 798 艺术区,是一个展览和推广当代艺术的空间,定期举办艺术家讲座、讨论会,并支持出版和研究项目。 我们的名字 Tabula Rasa 源于拉丁语,指被书写的石板在擦拭磨白后重新开始的状态。今天 tabula rasa 同时被广泛地运用在西方哲学领域,特指理论上人在没有接受感官和经验影响之前最朴质的空白状态。我们希望画廊呈现的展览能颠覆观众之前的观看经验,为新的 艺术实验提供可能性。


Tabula Rasa Gallery is based in Beijing's 798 art district. Established in 2015, it aims to promote both Chinese and international contemporary artists through exhibitions, talks, research and publication. The gallery's name refers to the philosophical idea that when we are born, our minds are like a blank slate. We hope the exhibition Tabula Rasa presents can subvert viewer's preconceptions, creating conditions for fresh artistic experiments.
